There are two main seasons where bulbs or bulbous plants are concerned; spring and summer. Spring flowering bulbs arrive at the nursery in early September and include many of the favourites such as daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. Generally speaking these need to be planted out by the end of October so that they have time to settle in before the worst of the winter weather arrives. Daffodils especially need to be planted before the end of Autumn or they will not perform well in the Spring, tulips however are more resilient and will still perform fine even if planted a little late.
Some vegetable varieties are available for autumn planting too. Japanese onions, red onions, garlic and asparagus are planted this time, ready for early cropping next year. Most of these should be in the ground and growing before the end of October.
Summer flowering bulbs arrive during January and include species such as lilies, begonias and dahlias to mention a few. These require planting before the end of March however, the earlier the better as early establishment of root systems will reward you with correct flowering times and vigor.
We offer bulbs from two companies, one of the biggest in England and one of the biggest in Holland. Taylors Bulbs and WPC Prins have been dealing with us for several decades and supply trusted, quality bulbs which we are able to pass on to our customers at very reasonable prices.
Most of the bulbs are pre-packed in various quantities, depending on the variety. We do stock limited supplies of bulk bags ideal for landscapers or people with large gardens and we also stock certain loose varieties like hyacinths and begonias. Our selection covers basic and more acquired tastes with something for everyone.
Throughout the year we offer many of these bulbous plants ‘grown’ or ‘growing’. For example, in the spring we stock a range of daffodils, iris, crocus etc in pots, in a flowering state. You can also find alliums in ‘the green’ ready to plant for late spring flowering. Slightly later we offer a range of lillies, growing & ready to be planted for summer flowering.

Not many Garden Centres can boast over ninety years of history, and yes, we have seen many changes over that period. Indeed change will continue as we strive always to supply the best in plants and facilities. One thing, however, will never change:
The core philosophy first introduced by Archibald John Mills way back in 1928 remains - the philosophy that built the company’s reputation, sustains it now, and will guide it in the future:
The best way to keep gardeners happy is to offer them plants of the highest quality, sold at reasonable prices.Read more
